Hey Lykkers! Are you ready to embark on an adventure to the stunning landscapes of Mount Hughes?
This breathtaking destination offers a mix of outdoor exploration and cultural experiences that leave lasting memories. Join us as we dive into the beauty and charm of this majestic mountain.
We kicked off our adventure by hiking the well-maintained trails of Mount Hughes. The most popular route, the Hughes Summit Trail, takes about 4-6 hours round trip and rewards hikers with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
As we ascended, we were greeted by vibrant wildflowers and the sounds of nature, making each step a delight. The trail is open year-round, but we recommend visiting between late spring and early fall for the best weather and scenery. There’s no entrance fee, making it accessible for everyone seeking a day in nature.
After conquering the summit, we decided to explore the Hughes Glacier, a stunning sight that showcases the beauty of glacial landscapes. This magnificent glacier is an ideal spot for photography and experiencing the raw power of nature.
We took a guided tour that lasted about three hours, which provided us with insights into the glacier’s formation and the surrounding ecosystem. The tour costs around €30 per person, and it's available from June to September. Watching the sunlight dance on the glacier's icy surface was a moment we will never forget.
After a day of hiking and exploring, we headed to a nearby restaurant to refuel. We indulged in some delicious local cuisine, trying out mountain goat stew served with fresh bread for about €15, which was hearty and flavorful. Another highlight was the grilled trout, caught fresh from the local lakes, priced at €12. Eating while soaking in the views of Mount Hughes was the perfect way to end the day.
For those looking to extend their stay, we recommend the Mountain Lodge, located just a short drive from the trailheads. This cozy lodge offers stunning views of the mountains and comfortable rooms starting at around €100 per night. The lodge also has a fantastic restaurant that serves a variety of local dishes, ensuring you get a taste of the region. After a long day of outdoor adventures, the warmth and hospitality of the lodge make it a perfect retreat.
